My young students range in age from 8 to 18. Students receive a curriculum that is designed for the way they learn and the kind of music they are interested in. The elements of technique, sightreading, theory, and rhythm are common to any style of music. Some of my students focus on classical music, some on jazz, and some on contemporary popular music. I also accompany students who like to sing. We make playlists of songs to learn on whatever streaming service they listen to. The students stay inspired searching for new music to bring in and put on their list. I curate their selections and select a song that works on the piano and that they can play at their level. Whatever kind of music students want to play, I believe in first teaching the fundamentals of piano, providing a foundation for them to express the music of their world.
