When Jasper and Ayla visited Austin, Texas for the first time in 2012, they knew instantly that this is a city they want to live and grow old in. The native Dutchies were drawn to the weather, friendly people and amazing food. As a favor, they hosted basketball clinics for a few elementary schools in the area. This was met with an overwhelming response and the business idea that later become Freestyle Sports was born! Back in The Netherlands, Jasper taught aspiring youth basketball coaches the ins and outs of the craft of coaching and he had his own basketball entertainment business, that focused on school clinics and basketball shows (think Harlem Globetrotters). Ayla played professional basketball, winning multiple National titles and worked for the Olympic Network as a Talent Coordinator, working with young Olympians in over fifteen different sports.
